When allowed to color, children can become creative. Perhaps they colored your leather seat or couch, or perhaps they left crayons on the leather seat in your car and they melted. Regardless of what happened, care must be taken when removing crayon from leather. Many products that remove crayon can also damage leather or remove the color from it. The easiest and safest way to remove crayon from leather seats is to either iron it or use soap and water. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Paper towel or brown paper bag
  • Iron
  • Liquid dish soap
  • Cup or bowl
  • Paper towel or soft cloth
  • Cotton ball
  • Rubbing alcohol

Instructions

  1. Iron

    • 1

      Lay a paper towel or brown paper bag over the crayon mark or clump of dried crayon.

      Plug an iron in and allow it to heat to the lowest possible setting.

      Iron over the brown bag or paper towel. As you iron, the crayon should begin to melt into the paper towel or bag. If it does not, turn your iron up to the next possible setting. Continue raising the temperature until the crayon lifts from the leather onto the paper towel or bag.

      Add a squirt of liquid dish soap to a small bowl or cup of water. Dip a paper towel or soft cloth into the soapy water. Wipe the leather seat to remove any remaining crayon residue.

      Dampen a soft cloth or paper towel in cool running water. Wipe away any remaining soap residue. Dry the leather seat with a towel to prevent water spotting.

    Soap and Water

      Add a squirt of liquid dish soap to a small bowl or cup of room temperature water.

      Dip a paper towel or soft cloth into the soapy water. Rub into the leather seat to remove the crayon mark. Continue rubbing and cleaning until the crayon mark is removed.

      Dampen a soft cloth or paper towel in cool running water. Wipe away any remaining soap residue. Dry the leather seat with a towel to prevent water spotting.

      Dampen a cotton ball or soft cloth with rubbing alcohol. Gently dab the rubbing alcohol into an inconspicuous area on the seat. Wait five minutes. If the color does not appear affected, continue. If the color appears affected, do not use rubbing alcohol. Dab the rubbing alcohol into any remaining crayon spots that were not removed by soap and water.

      Dampen a soft cloth or paper towel in cool running water. Wipe away any remaining rubbing alcohol. Dry the leather seat with a towel to prevent water spotting.
