How to Update an iPhone By Dial-Up

Apple issues updates for its iPhone mobile device through the iTunes application. These updates either enhance the current features, fix any system problems or install new features. Your computer must be connected to the Internet to download the update into iTunes. If you use a dial-up service to connect to the Internet, first dial into your Internet service before attempting to download the update. Once the computer is connected to the Internet, connect the iPhone to your computer and download and install the update.

Instructions

1. Connect to the Internet with your dial-up service provider application.

2. Connect the iPhone to the computer with the USB cable. The iTunes application opens.

3. Click the iPhone icon under "Devices" in the left pane of the window.

4. Click the "Summary" tab, then click "Check for Update." When prompted, click "Download." The update will download to iTunes.

5. Click "Install" when prompted. The update will automatically transfer to the iPhone. You will be notified when the upgrade is complete and it is safe to disconnect the device from the computer.

Tips & Warnings

• Dial-up speeds are slower than broadband, so it will take longer to download the update.
