1
Learn words in context. Learn what vocabulary words mean and use them in context. For example, when you see a dog, say the foreign word for dog. If you see a cat, use the foreign word for cat. Don't try to memorize long lists of words. Instead, pronounce the word, learn the meaning of the word, and then use the word in your daily life.

2
Learn grammar by saying short phrases correctly. Your ear will begin to recognize the difference between correct and incorrect grammar in the foreign language. This technique is called inferring the rule, according to "How to Learn Any Language."

Practice with language software. Language software like the Rosetta Stone and Pimsleur allow you to practice the language through structured classes in your own time. Use the software daily, learning information in chunks. Review lessons as needed.

Hire a language tutor. A language tutor can help you hone your conversational skills and help you with your accent. Talk about current events, your daily activities, or your interests in tutoring sessions.
You can also ask questions to extend your knowledge.

Visit the country where the language is spoken. Immerse yourself in the language by spending time in the country where the foreign language is the people's native langue. Consider studying abroad in a language immersion program. Try to spend at least three months abroad. This will force you to speak the language to survive. Develop friends in the area and speak to them using the language. Speak as little English as possible. According to "Full Language Immersion Programs in Public Schools," full immersion helps young language learners not only become literate in the language, but also comprehend the language.
