How to Clean & Deodorize Faux Suede

Faux suede is a synthetic fiber that feels like suede. Faux suede is usually washable if it is clothing. If you have faux suede shoes, you can clean and deodorize them as well. The finish on faux suede makes it fairly stain resistant and simple to wipe off if anything spills on it. Use normal household products to clean faux suede.

Things You'll Need

• 1 cup laundry detergent
• Vinegar
• Bowl
• Baking soda
• Cloth
• Vacuum

Instructions

Clothing

1. Fill a washing machine with warm water and 1 cup laundry detergent.

2. Place the faux suede clothing in the washing machine and set it for a gentle cycle.

3. Remove the faux suede when the washing machine cycle is complete and hang it up to dry, or place it in the dryer on low tumble dry.

Shoes

1. Mix ½ cup vinegar with ½ cup warm water in a bowl. Moisten a cloth with the mixture.

2. Dab the cloth on any stains on faux suede shoes to remove them. Scrub the shoes clean with the cloth.

3. Pour 3 to 4 tbsp. baking soda into the faux suede shoes to deodorize them. Allow the baking soda to sit for about 24 hours.

4. Vacuum the baking soda out of the shoes.

Tips & Warnings

• Check to make sure your faux suede clothing in washable. If not, take it to a dry cleaner.
