How to Listen to 1960s Music
It's hard to think of a more influential decade in music history than the 1960s. The '60s produced the Beatles and the British Invasion, Motown, psychedelic rock and folk rock. Listening to '60s music is easy because of the Internet and the sheer volume, popularity and enduring nature of the era's bestselling songs. Start with the big hits and bands and work your way to lesser-known artists. Some of the most influential names in music from the '60s -- aside from the Beatles -- include Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones, the Temptations, the Beach Boys, James Brown and the Supremes.

Visit Digital Dream Door's 100 Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Songs of the '60s website to sample some of the biggest hits of the decade. Turn the volume up on your computer speakers. Click on the song or artist, such as "Respect" by Aretha Franklin, "She Loves You" by the Beatles or "Surfin' USA" by the Beach Boys. Listen to all 100 songs.

Go to Last.fm's 1960s website. Last.fm is a free, legal user-generated music recommendation service. Click the "Play 60s Tag Radio" button to launch a radio station of random songs from the 1960s added by Last.fm users.

Click the forward arrow button in the upper right of the window to skip to the next track. As long as you are connected to the Internet, you can listen as long as you like. If you want to download any songs to add them to your permanent online music library, click "Buy Track" and scroll to your preferred service, such as Amazon or iTunes. This will launch a new window where you can download the track.

Enter any artist or band you want to hear into the blank field in the upper right of the Last.fm website. For example, if you want to listen to more songs by the 1960s British psychedelic rock band Cream, type "Cream" and hit the Enter key. A page will launch that summarizes the band's history and offers information about how many times other Last.fm listeners have played the band's songs. Click the "Play Cream Radio" button. Listen to Cream's songs, as well as songs of a similar sound recommended by other users. Discover other bands and artists you like this way.
