How to Change the Code on an Overhead Garage Door
Before rolling-code technology, garage-door openers used dip switches for programming. This made it relatively easy for someone to find a remote and program it to open your garage door when you were away. Now, rolling-code technology is found on all manufacturers' door openers. This allows you to program through the garage-door opener to the remote. It is a good idea to change the code on an overhead garage-door opener when you install the unit, and then at least once a year. Doing this allows you peace of mind about your garage security. Set up a step ladder under the rear of the overhead garage-door opener motor head. Find the "Learn" button on your door opener. A small LED light is near the button. Most are on the back of the opener head, while some manufacturers have the button on the side. You may have to remove a lens cover to find the button.

Hold the "Learn" button down with your finger. The LED light will illuminate. Release the "Learn" button when the LED light turns back off. This indicates you have cleared all codes from the overhead garage-door opener.

Press and release the "Learn" button once again. The LED illuminates again, indicating it is ready for programming.

Hold the button down on your remote control. The main light on the opener will blink twice, indicating the programming of the opener to the remote. Release the button on the remote, and press it once to operate the garage-door opener.

Repeat Steps 3 and 4 with any other remotes you wish to program to operate the garage-door opener.

Tips & Warnings
To change the code on just one remote, press and release the "learn" button and press the remote you wish to change.
