How to Decorate With a Pink and Cocoa Scheme

A brown bedroom is too boring for most girls, but with pink it comes to life.

Give your daughter's bedroom a stylish update with a cocoa brown and pink color scheme. Although many think that brown is too boring, this shade comes to life when standing alongside its pink counterpart. This color combination is one of the hottest trends for a girl's bedroom. It mixes the femininity and sweetness of pink with the trendy sophistication of cocoa.

Instructions

1. Discuss the ways she wants to use these colors in her room. One possibility is to paint the walls pink and add cocoa stripes to the center, or top of the wall. Another possibility is to paint three of the walls cocoa and paint one wall pink. Or, if she wants a really funky look, she could paint each wall in an alternate color of pink and cocoa.

2. Discuss the shade of pink that she prefers. There are plenty to choose from: hot pink, pale pink, dark pink, rose pink or coral. Take a trip to the hardware store and let her take home some swatches. Give her a few days to decide which pink shade she likes best.

3. Decorate the wall. Some possibilities include painting polka dots in various sizes. You can use variations of the accent color, so they create interest. If you don't want to paint the polka dots, use wall decals instead.

4. Paint wooden furniture to match this color theme. Paint an old dresser cocoa and paint the drawers of the dresser pink. Or paint the dresser pink and add decorative brown drawer pulls. Paint bookshelves pink or cocoa, alternating the colors between shelves. Paint the top of a bedside table or desk cocoa and paint the legs pink.

5. Drape pink and cocoa linens on the bed. A comforter that contrasts the wall color will make the bed a focal point. Add some throw pillows that have cocoa and pink prints. Choose throw pillows of different prints and textures for the bed. Choose curtains that match the colors of the bed in a print, stripe or a polka dot pattern.

6. Update the accents in the room. Spray mirrors with a fresh coat of vibrant pink spray paint. Sprinkle some glitter on the mirror, as the paint is drying, for a glitzy look. Replace an old lampshade with a pink or cocoa one in a solid color, polka dots or stripes. Cover a large cork board in a pink or brown fabric print, so your daughter can display messages, photos and sentimental items.

7. Decoupage pink flowers or another pretty pink pattern from wallpaper, wrapping paper, magazines or fabric on a table top, desk or chair. Use decoupage adhesive to attach it to the item; then protect your work with spray lacquer finish.
