Mario Kart DS Game Data Could Not Be Written
"Mario Kart DS" is a version of the popular "Mario Kart" video game from Nintendo that is designed to play on the company's portable "Nintendo DS" hand held gaming system. When you complete a race, you have the ability to save all of your points and statistics to a save file, giving you the ability to access all of this information later. Verify that you're saving at an appropriate time during the game. In "Mario Kart DS," you can only save after you have completed a race, not during. If you're attempting to save your game while you're in the middle of a particular race or challenge, you will first have to complete what you are working on and then save your game as normal.

Check to make sure that your SD card is properly inserted and that it isn't completely filled with other information. If you're playing "Mario Kart DS" on a Nintendo DSi or DS XL, you have the ability to save your game to a flash based SD memory card. If this card doesn't have enough space to house your save game, you will receive the "Data could not be written" error message. Go into the memory card management utility and delete any unnecessary data before trying to save again.

Unlike something like a PC game, which will create an unlimited number of saves, "Mario Kart DS" has a limited number of slots that you can use to save your game, similar to the way old Nintendo and Super Nintendo games did.
