How to Play a Movie Maker Slideshow on a Digital Photo Frame

Though you may think of digital photo frames as a means of displaying only digital photos, many digital photo frames can support digital video files as well. You can create a customized display in a photo frame by making a slide show in a video program, such as Windows Movie Maker. Once you create the slide show, you can upload it to the digital photo frame, as long as the file format is supported by the frame.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch Windows Movie Maker on your computer. Go to the "Start" menu, click "All Programs," scroll to the Windows programs at the top of the program list and click "Windows Movie Maker."

    • 2

Add photos that you want to use in the slide show to Movie Maker. Click the "Add Media" button in Movie Maker; navigate to the folder that contains the photos in the window that opens; and double-click any photo you want to add to the project.

    • 3

Move the photos to the timeline in order. Click on the first photo that you want to play in the slide show, hold the mouse button down and drag the photo to the "Video" track. Release the video to drop it into place.

    • 4

Change the clip length if you want the photo to play for a longer or shorter time in the slide show. First, look at the time markers at the top of the timeline to see how long the clip is set to play. Then, click the right side of the clip and move it left to shorten the length of time the clip plays, or right to increase the length of time the clip plays. Continue adding photos until you have all of the photos you want in the slide show.

    • 5

Add a title to any photo on the timeline by clicking on that photo and then going to "Tools" and choosing "Titles and Credits." When the blank title box appears, type any title you would like into the box.

    • 6

Click the "Import Media" button again if you would like to add music or other audio to the slide show. Go to the folder that contains the audio file you want to add in the window that comes up and then double-click the file to add it. Drag the audio file to the "Audio/Music" track in Movie Maker to play it with the photos.

    • 7

Create the slide show by going to "File" and "Publish." Leave the default settings in place and Movie Maker automatically saves the file as a WMV, or Windows Media Video, file. Check the manual that came with the digital photo frame to make sure it accepts WMV. If not, go to an online converter, like Media Converter or Movavi, to convert the file to one of the file formats supported by the frame.

Attach the frame to the computer using the cord that came with the frame. Go to "Start," "Computer" and double-click the frame when it appears in the drive list. Drag the Movie Maker slide show from the folder in which it is saved into the frame folder to transfer it into the frame.
