How to Pipe Cupcakes
There are a number of ways to pipe cupcakes for decorating. They can be piped smooth to create a clean finish or for fondant pieces to be placed on top. They can be piped using a star tip to create a swirl design or they can be piped with a round tip to create a smooth swirled design. The type of piping that you place on your cupcakes depends on your preference. Does this Spark an idea?

Cut one inch off the closed end of the icing bag.

Insert the inner piece of the icing coupler into the bag and push it into the cut piece of the icing bag until firmly into the opening. The coupler should remain inside the bag.

Place the icing tip you would like to use, such as 1M or 22, on the outside of the cut end of the icing bag. The coupler should be inside of the tip.

Place the connector over the top of the tip, and screw it into place onto the inner coupler.

Fill the bag at least half full with buttercream icing. Make sure to pack the icing as tightly as possible so that there are not any air bubbles in the icing.

Close the open end of the bag by pinching it and twisting it closed.

Hold the bag over the cupcake at a 90-degree angle and begin to squeeze until icing begins to come out of the bag. Move the cupcake in a circle and continue to squeeze the bag moving outward until the cupcake is covered in icing.
