How to Convert an ODP File to a PPT
As more and more computer users search for lower cost alternatives to Microsoft Office, presentations made with Open Office Impress are much more common than they were in the past. Open Office has proven to be a viable alternative to Microsoft in terms of compatibility and features, and the fact that the application is freeware is not lost on the millions of people that now use the application. If you have an Impress file (ODP) that you would like to convert for use in Microsoft Office's PowerPoint (PPT), there are a couple of ways to convert the ODP to a PPT.

- Sun ODF Plug-in (if running Microsoft Office)

Converting ODP Files Using Impress

Launch the Open Office Impress application on your PC.

Click "File" and "Open" on the menu bar, then browse to the ODP file. Highlight the file, then click the "Open" button.

Click "File" and "Save As." Then click "File," "Type" and "Microsoft PowerPoint." Click the "Save" button. Microsoft PowerPoint users can now open and edit the ODP file.

Browse to the Sun website, then download and save the "Sun ODF Plug-in for Microsoft Office." Double-click the downloaded file, then accept the license agreement. Follow the onscreen instructions to install the plug-in in on your PC.

Launch Microsoft PowerPoint on your computer. Click the Microsoft Office button in the upper left corner of the screen, then click on "Open" on the drop-down menu.

Click the "Browse" button, then the ODP file you want to open in Microsoft PowerPoint.

Click the "Open" button. Wait for PowerPoint to convert the file and display the presentation contents on the screen. Edit the presentation as needed. Once you save the presentation, it will save as a PPT file automatically because of the installed plug-in.
