How to Make a Rainbow Parade Float
A rainbow is often used as a symbol of diversity because of the many different colors in the rainbow. The rainbow requires every one of the different colors to complete the rainbow, which makes it an ideal metaphor for diversity among humans. You do not have to celebrate diversity, however, to create a rainbow float. There are other uses for rainbow floats, such as nature, for a children's parade, Mardi Gras or just for fun.

Basic Float
-
1
Cover the base of the float with floral sheeting of different colors. Use the rainbow colors of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and purple. Staple the colors in order around the base of the float, or you can randomly place the colors around the float. Cover the floor of the float in floral sheeting as well.
-
2
Construct a rough structure for the rainbow itself from 2-by-4 foot boards. Give the rainbow sides and a top in a rectangular shape. Screw the frame together. Screw it to the trailer floor as well for stability.

3
Cover the rainbow frame with chicken wire to add the rounded shape. Staple the wire in place against the frame.
-
4
Cover the chicken wire in floral sheeting or individual flower blossoms. Staple the blooms and floral sheeting in place against the chicken wire. Make sure to place the rainbow colors in the proper order.
Optional Balloon Rainbow Arch
-
5
Fill two 5 gallon buckets with something heavy to hold the arch in place. Use balloons filled with helium.
-
6
String 30 red balloons onto a long string. String 27 orange balloons onto another string. Make a string of 24 yellow balloons. String 20 green balloons. String 17 blue balloons, 14 indigo balloons and 10 purple balloons.
-
7
Tie the balloon strings together in a rainbow pattern. Use additional fishing wire strings to hold the layers together. Hold the other end of the balloon strings down in the other heavy bucket.
