How to Troubleshoot the Memorex MDV4544

The MDV4544 from Memorex is a DVD/VCR combination unit designed to be used with a standard-definition television set. If you are having problems with your MDV4544, common solutions including checking for poor connections and making sure the device is set up properly.

1. Check the cable connections between your television set and your Memorex MDV4544. Three cables -- red, white and yellow -- should connect the DVD/VCR player to your television set. These cables should be connected to matching colored inputs on the rear panels of each device. If these cables are not connected or connected incorrectly, your Memorex MDV4544 won't be able to send signals to your TV.

2. Verify that your Memorex MDV4544 is on the appropriate "mode." The front panel of the DVD/VCR player has a "Mode" button based on which part of the unit's functionality you're using. When you insert a DVD player into the device, you have to switch the mode to "DVD" using this button. If you put a DVD in while the unit is still on VHS mode, the unit won't be able to communicate with your television set properly.

3. Check what channel you should use to tune your television to receive content from the Memorex MDV4544. On newer television sets, press the "Input" button on your remote (while the DVD/VCR combo is on) to watch tapes and DVDs. On older television sets, tune to Channel 2 or 3 (depending on your specific TV). If your TV isn't tuned to the proper channel, you won't be able to see the VHS tapes or DVD discs that are being played, even if the Memorex MDV4544 is set up correctly.
