How to Figure a Composite SAT Score From the Separate Scores You Are Given

The SAT, or Scholastic Aptitude Test, is a standardized test used in the college admissions process. The SAT is required by most colleges as part of a student's application and can be a challenging task. The SAT is made up of three sections: math, verbal and writing. Each section is worth 800 points, adding up to 2,400 possible points. The test can be taken as many times as needed to achieve the score you want.

1. Gather the SAT scores that you received from College Board, the examination board that administers the test.

2. Add the three total scores for each section to find the composite score. The three sections --- math, writing and verbal --- are each scored out of 800 for a possible total of 2,400 points. If, for example, your scores were a 570 on math, 600 on verbal and a 600 on writing, your composite score would be a 1,770.

3. Examine your composite SAT score. If your score is lower than you would like, consider taking the SAT again.

• Take the SAT for the first time in the spring of your junior year of high school. If you want to try for a better score, take the test again in the fall of your senior year.
