How to Replace a Bicycle Seat and Post

How to Replace a Bicycle Seat and Post thumbnail
Replace bicycle seats and posts as needed for comfort and safety.

You should replace a bicycle seat and post when they have become either unusable, unsafe or uncomfortable, with ones that better suit your riding needs. The process of replacing the seat and post may be as simple as using a wrench and screwdriver or as cumbersome as having to use the existing seat to forcefully pull the stubborn post out of the seat tube. Also, because bicycles come in various designs, you should take time to find the right seat and post combination for your particular bicycle model.

Instructions

    • 1

Set the bicycle upright on the floor and remove the bolts holding the post to the post tube. Ensure that the seat is securely tightened to the post.

    • 2

Ask your assistant to help you hold the bicycle from the front wheels as you pull the seat up towards you.

    • 3

Tighten the new seat onto the new seat post and insert it into the well-greased seat tube. Re-insert and tighten the screws that hold the seat post onto the seat tube as recommended.
