How to Customize a Camera Bag

How to Customize a Camera Bag thumbnail
A camera bag can be customized in a variety of ways.

If you own any size and kind of camera, it is wise to invest in a camera bag. Camera bags protect cameras from scratches and impacts, making them useful for taking care of your investment. Small cameras require tiny camera bags, but large, single lens reflex cameras often use large bags with a variety of pockets. It is wise to customize your camera bag, especially if you frequently use it in public.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a variety of patches and crests that you'd like to attach to your camera bag. These patches and crests can reflect the camera itself or your style and personality. For example, if you use a Canon camera but have a generic bag, you may wish to add a Canon crest to the bag. To help identify your bag as being yours, you may also wish to select patch lettering that spells your initials or entire name.

    • 2

Iron your crests and patches onto the bag with a hot iron.

    • 3

Sew a line of thread around the perimeter of each crest or patch to help reinforce them.

    • 4

Decorate the camera bag strap by adding buttons of your favorite brands, musical artists or anything else that interests you.

Tips & Warnings

  • While most custom bags are designed to be extremely visible, you may prefer to keep your camera bag looking discrete. If you're traveling, a noticeable camera bag may be an easier target for a thief. As such, you may wish to add subtle lettering to your camera bag in the form of your initials. Likewise, if you own an expensive camera, you may not wish to advertise that fact to the public with a crest.

  • Add stick-on reflective strips to the camera bag if you often carry it at night.

  • If you belong to a photographers' association, consider adding the group's patch to your bag.
