Visit a website offering free printable cards. Sites such as American Greetings, 123printcards.com, and the Hewlett Packard Creative Studio offer options for every occasion, including birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, births, and more. American Greetings offers one of the largest selections of cards. However, not all of the cards are free. Only a small selection under each category is available without paying the membership fee. 123printcards.com offers a larger selection of free options available to customize and print. If you prefer photo cards, the HP Creative Studio helps you to create greeting cards using your own photos for further personalization.

Choose the printable card that fits the occasion and your feelings. Printable cards are fully customizable and can be changed to fit your needs. American Greetings allows you to add additional clip art to your card. This clip art must be from their library, however. 123printcards.com offers different versions of the same card. Choose from a simple card with only a short greeting inside, a letter card with a longer greeting, or an "I have a lot to say" card allowing for even more text. The HP Creative Studio cards are either e-cards or print cards. The cards are animated and therefore look better as an e-card than a printed card.

To customize your card at American Greetings, add the recipient's name in the front and add your own name to the back of the card. Change the text to say exactly what you want to say. You do not have to keep the exact wording on the card. Choose a different poem or saying or add your own personal wording to the existing one. Customize your card at HP Creative Studio with your own photographs, entering the recipient's name and adding your own personalized message.

Load the printer with greeting card paper. This paper is a thicker, card stock paper that is already scored for easier folding. Hewlett Packard, Avery, and Canon all offer variations of paper for all your greeting card needs.

Click print to print your card from the website. Most websites allow you to preview your card prior to printing. Take advantage of this feature to ensure all the information is correct.
