Put Symbols in Your Facebook Status

One feature common to many social networking websites is the ability to add a short note under your profile picture, commonly called your "status." Facebook has this feature, and you might use the status area on your Facebook profile to quickly update your friends on your current activities or how you feel at the moment. Although it might not be obvious from the Facebook status interface, you are not limited to text when typing in this box, and can actually use any symbol that you find on the Windows Character Map.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to the front page of Facebook and log in. Click the "Profile" button in the corner of the page to proceed to your Facebook profile.

    • 2

Click the box under "Edit My Profile" if you have never entered a Facebook status before. If you have already created a Facebook status, click the pencil-shaped icon.

    • 3

Type any text that you would like to appear in your Facebook status, and then position the blinking cursor in the location where you would like a symbol to appear.

    • 4

Click the Windows logo in the lower-left corner of the screen, and type "character" in the search box at the bottom of the menu. Click "Character Map" at the top of the list when Windows completes the search.

    • 5

Click the drop-down menu next to "Font" at the top of the Character Map window, and select "Arial." The window displays all of the symbols available for you to select from.

    • 6

Find the symbol that you would like to add to your Facebook status, and double-click it.

    • 7

Click the "Copy" button, and return to the Web browser, where the cursor should still be positioned where you left it.

    • 8

Right-click inside the Facebook status box, and select "Paste." The copied symbol appears in the box. Repeat this process until you have added every symbol that you want to use.
