How to Make Valentine Cards for a First Grade Teacher
On Valentine's Day, children in the first grade often have class parties where Valentine Cards are passed out to all of the students. Many children like to include their teacher and give the teacher a card as well. When making a card for a first grade teacher, the card is special and different than those passed out to other students. The message is also different because it is designed to tell the teacher he is doing a good job and is appreciated.

1
Cut the construction paper into a rectangle about 4 or 5 inches by about 8 or 9 inches. Fold the paper in half along the longer side to form the shape of a rectangular card.
-
2
Trace the shape of a heart on the sponge. Use the scissors to cut out the sponge into a heart shape. Place the sponge on the card and cut the card as necessary once you see how the sponge fits on the card.

3
Allow children to dip the sponge in pink or red paint and press it onto the card. First graders are old enough to handle the paint part of the project and can enjoy stamping the heart shape onto the card. Give the paint a couple hours to dry.
-
4
Allow the child to print the first grade teacher's name on the front of the card, under the heart sponge.
-
5
Write a message to the teacher on the inside of the card. Parents should write a message to the teacher inside the card wishing the first grade teacher "Happy Valentine's Day" and thanking them for their work with the children. Add some specific details such as a first grade activity the child enjoyed or how the teacher helped the child with class work that was difficult to understand. Send the card with the child to give to the teacher when passing out cards to the rest of the class.
