How to Make Working Batman Gadgets

Batman’s gadgets are interesting elements that make him a more appealing superhero character. They add excitement to the Batman story as the caped crusader wins over many fight scenes or escapes traps made for him by his villains with the help of these gadgets. You can make your own working version of one of Batman’s most popular gadgets called the Batarang, which is short for a Batman boomerang. This may or may not turn out as a real-life deadly weapon, but you can still use it like Batman, throwing it as a boomerang-type of weapon.

Things You'll Need:

  • Non-Corrugated Cardboard
  • Black Paint
  • Marker
  • Ruler
  • Tin Foil
  • Pair Of Scissors Or Cutter
  • Glue
  • Pen

Draw the Batman symbol or any other shape you prefer, then have this marked by the Batman sign. For a more authentic Bat-shaped boomerang, use the actual Batman symbol as your project’s shape. To do this, draw arches within the interior curve of a crescent. These should make edges that resemble a bat’s wing. You can always check online sources for an accurate shape for your Batarang, then use it as guide. In terms of size, it’s up to you how big you want the Batarang to be. As a benchmark sample, you can use a size of 4 inches by 7 inches for this Bat-shaped boomerang.

Cut out your Batarang's shape using a pair of scissors or cutter.

Cover the work-in-progress Batarang with tin foil to make it look like it’s made of metal, then put a black Batman symbol somewhere on the Batarang. Alternatively, you can paint the piece with black paint instead of merely putting a Batman symbol on it as an identifiable mark.

Tip

You can make more Batarangs with different sizes or shapes. For a Batarang that doesn't show a bat shape, include a Batman symbol or marking on a conspicuous area of your Batarang.

When making a Batarang, you may choose between a real metal piece or a working replica that is not necessarily a weapon. You can actually buy throwing stars, then draw little Batman symbols on them using a permanent pen, sticker or any other material. This way, you can readily have real bladed Batarang pieces. With these being actual weapons, be extremely careful when using or playing with them.

You may also shape a piece of thin scrap metal to a Batman shape, then paint the said piece with black paint. However, when prioritizing safety, especially when coming up with a Batarang for children, a good material to use is a non-corrugated cardboard. This is an ideal piece for handling, marking and cutting. You can throw this like any other boomerang with limited risk of hurting anybody.
