Donate your old computer to a Tucson charity.

Tucson, Arizona is committed to keeping their city beautiful. In an effort to reduce waste in landfills, Tucson has created a company called Tucson Clean and Beautiful Inc., which provides a list of charities and organizations that accept donations of many sorts, including those that accept computer donations. Your computer donations are cleaned, wiped and rebuilt. From there they are donated to local schools and other organizations in need of working computers for their programs.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate a charity in Tucson that accepts computer donations (see Resources). Choose a charity from the list endorsed by the city of Tucson, or choose a charity you are familiar with in the Tucson area.

    • 2

Check the status of the organization you chose to see if it is a registered nonprofit organization, referred to as a 501(C)3. The Internal Revenue Service provides a site where you can search your charity's name to see if it is registered (see Resources). Donations to unregistered charities are not eligible for income tax deductions.

    • 3

Calculate the value of your computer donation (see Resources). This is the dollar amount you can claim on your income tax return as a charitable deduction for the year.

    • 4

Call your charity to inquire about donation center hours of operations and locations. Choose a time to drop off your computer donation and obtain a tax receipt to keep with your income tax records.
