How to Use the Cleaning Cycle on My 1980 GE Self Clean Oven

Self cleaning ovens heat to around 1000 degrees Fahrenheit in order to burn away all the food debris inside the oven. When the cycle is done, all that is left is ash, in most cases. All self cleaning ovens need to run for between one to three hours. GE self- cleaning ovens from the 1980s are very basic but they work like any other self-cleaning oven.

Things You'll Need

• Cloth
• 1/2 tsp. dish soap

Instructions

1. Remove the racks and any pans from the GE self cleaning oven. Brush any loose debris out of the oven.

2. Wet a cloth with ½ tsp. dish soap and warm water to make suds. Wipe out the bottom of the oven with the cloth to clean up any stuck-on spills.

3. Shut the GE self cleaning oven's door and turn the latch to lock the oven.

4. Turn the oven cycle to "Self Clean." A light will come on to let you know the oven is heating up.

5. Open the GE self cleaning oven's door when the light goes off. Brush out any ash from the bottom of the oven.
