How to Connect Wireless PS3 Guitar Hero Controllers

The "Guitar Hero" game series turns users into rock stars, allowing them to strum along to their favorite tunes with a special controller that resembles a real guitar. While there are corded guitar controllers available, the wireless ones give gamers more freedom. If you have a PlayStation 3 (PS3) and want to use a wireless guitar controller with your "Guitar Hero" games, you will need a wireless dongle to sync the console and the controller. (A dongle, as defined by WiseGeek, is "a piece of hardware that attaches to a computer in order to make a piece of secured software run.")

Insert the wireless dongle into an open USB port on the front of your PS3.

Check to make sure that the red indicator lights on both the dongle and the guitar are on and solid. If they are, the guitar is ready to use. If they're not on or are flashing, proceed to the next step.

Press the small button on the front of the dongle if the light is flashing or not on at all. You will see the lights flash on the dongle and on the guitar, just above the strum bar.

Press the "PS" button on the guitar once, and wait for the lights to stop flashing. There should be one red light that stays on solid. If the lights continue to flash, press the "PS" button again. You may need to press this button more than once for the light to stay on.

Tip

Large metal objects may interfere with the wireless signal, so if you're having problems syncing your console with the wireless controller, look for anything that may be interrupting the signal, including entertainment systems.

Warnings:

  • Avoid standing too close to the console while trying to sync it with the guitar, as it may cause problems.
