DIY: Wrapping Candy Bars

DIY: Wrapping Candy Bars thumbnail
Custom-wrapping candy allows you to match the colors of your event.

Creating your own candy wrappers can be a great way to decorate for weddings, birthdays or holidays. While the wrapper that comes with the candy may be plain and dull, it is not difficult to replace this wrapper with the color you want or a themed pattern, which can make your candy much more tailored, original and customized to your event at hand. Wrapping your candy with customized wrappers may take time and patience, but it is a relatively inexpensive craft and is not difficult to do.

Instructions

    • 1

Unwrap your candy bar by first taking off the paper label and then taking off the foil. Do not rip the original wrappings.

    • 2

Measure the foil of the wrapper with your ruler. Record these measurements.

    • 3

Lay your custom foil flat on a solid surface, such as a table. With your ruler, measure the length and width of the foil to match that of the original foil wrapper. Use a pencil to trace the rectangle.

    • 4

Cut out the rectangle of custom foil with the scissors. Lay this foil flat on your work surface.

    • 5

Place your unwrapped candy bar horizontally in the center of your foil. Fold the two shorter ends (left and right) over your candy first. Make a sharp crease in the foil.

    • 6

Fold the longer ends (top and bottom) one over the other. Make sharp creases, and seal with a piece of clear tape.

    • 7

Measure the paper label with your ruler. Record the measurements.

    • 8

Lay your custom paper labels flat on a solid surface. With the ruler, measure your paper label to match the size of the original paper label. Trace the measurements with a pencil.

    • 9

Cut out the paper label with the scissors. Place the center of your paper label on the top of your candy bar (the side without tape). Fold the sides around the candy bar, making sharp creases.

    • 10

Flip your candy bar upside-down so that you have access to the two sides of paper on either end of your candy. Slide the glue stick over the side of paper that will rest on top of the other side. Fold the paper around the candy bar, and press the glued side over the bottom paper.

Tips & Warnings

  • An alternate to buying a patterned paper is creating your own paper labels by printing out regular or colored paper with your own pictures or custom lettering.
