1
Dress your little girl in a brightly colored matching cloth pants and shirt set. Yellows, purples and pinks all work well. A princess Halloween costume or bright dress also makes an excellent starting point for a fairy costume.

2
Cut a band of elastic that fits snugly around your child's waist and attach it to the waistband of her pants. Cut strips of sheer fabric and pin to the waistband with safety pins to create a gauzy skirt. Create a longer bottom row in one color, such as pink, and layer shorter pieces on top in between the bottom pieces. Choose a different shade, such as purple or a lighter pink, for the top row.

3
Bend 9-gauge aluminum wire, as recommended by Family Fun, into four circles to form a pair of wings. Make the top two circles larger than the bottom cirlces and twist the center tightly to join all four together
-
4
Stretch colored pantyhose over each circle of the wings and staple it in place. Pin the wings to your child's shirt. Add fabric straps over the wire and pin to the shirt for extra support.
-
5
Add a wand and fancy dress shoes to finish off the costume. Twist pipe cleaners into a circle and attach fake flowers and leaves for a beautiful crown, suggests the Family Fun website.
