How to Reschedule Jury Duty in Tennessee
A jury summons usually arrives by mail, notifying you of your obligation to report to jury duty. According to the Tennessee Code, a person is eligible for jury service if she is a citizen of the United states, has been a resident of the county for at least 12 months and has not served as a juror the previous two years. However, it may be necessary to reschedule jury duty if you have a prior important commitment during your selected time of service. While each county in Tennessee has slightly different procedures regarding postponement of jury duty, most courts will accommodate your rescheduling request.

1
Read your jury summons. Many counties provide a questionnaire on the back of the jury summons for you to complete or provide instructions about how to submit a request for a postponement of jury service. Approval of your rescheduling request will depend on your ability to follow the court's instructions.

2
Complete your postponement request. List your reason for requesting a postponement. Many counties, for instance Davidson County, ask that you include other weeks you are available to serve jury duty. Sign the document.

3
Mail your request for jury service postponement or call the clerk's office. Do not wait to submit your postponement request. Instead, mail or contact the clerk's office as soon as you receive your jury summons in the mail.

4
Contact the court to confirm that they have received your request for postponement and inquire whether the request has been confirmed or denied. Do not assume that your request has been approved.

5
Appear for jury service. If your request for jury duty postponement is denied, you still have an opportunity to explain to the court why a postponement is necessary. You can explain to the court or court's clerk during your scheduled jury duty service.
