How to Do Eric Carr's Makeup for Halloween

Maybe you've got rock star aspiration or just want a cool Halloween costume. Dressing up as Eric Carr probably won't make you famous, nor will it make you any better at the drums, but it sure will be fun. A few die-hard KISS fans will probably recognize you by the outfit alone, and the hair or wig will help others, but what really sets a KISS costume apart is the makeup. Getting the makeup just right is important to pulling off a recognizable rendition of "The Fox."

Instructions

    • 1

Apply foundation to your entire face to provide a better surface for the face paint. You can skip this step, but it will help protect your skin and make subsequent steps easier.

    • 2

Cover your entire face with the white face paint, preferably using a cosmetic sponge. Focus on getting smooth, even coverage and a solid color, though you can skimp a little around the eyes where the white will be covered by other colors.

    • 3

Take a makeup brush and gently paint the orange around your eyes, up to the eyelids and down to your cheekbones. The orange should be painted in a shape roughly resembling an almond that curves very slightly upwards. Don't worry too much about precision since any rough edges will be covered up with black.

    • 4

Outline the large regions of black with a makeup brush. Remember that the bridge of the nose remains white, but the sides and bottom are painted black. The black goes up and follows the curve of the eyebrows. Look at pictures of Eric Carr and try to recreate the shapes as close as you can.

    • 5

Fill in the outlines with solid black, taking care to leave the orange around the eyes visible.

    • 6

Paint the underside of the nose, around the nostrils, with the silver face paint. If you can't find silver, you can skip this step and leave the area black without the look suffering too much.

    • 7

Line your eyes heavily with black eyeliner, both top and bottom. Add a tapered line curving upwards at the outer corner of each eye.

    • 8

Apply black mascara to your upper and lower lashes. This step is optional but helps accentuate the eyeliner.

    • 9

Use the black lipstick on your upper and lower lips, making sure to apply it neatly. Depending on your personal preference, you can add a short black line at each corner of your mouth for "The Fox's" smile. Eric Carr didn't always do this, so it's up to you.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you can't find orange face paint, use an orange eyeshadow or blush instead, though the results may not be as strong or striking.
