Instructions

    • 1

Set up your candle mold. Wrap the wick around the pencil, and let it dangle into the mold, in the center.

    • 2

Chop up the colored wax. You can either fill the entire candle mold with the different colors, or set them up on the "walls" of the mold. For a more stained glass look, set them along the walls.

    • 3

In the pot, melt the clear or white wax over low heat. Stir constantly. Melt until the wax is thinned and melted.

    • 4

If you wish to add scent to your mosaic candle, stir in a couple drops when the wax is melted. Make certain to thoroughly stir the liquid wax to ensure an even scent.

    • 5

When the clear or white wax is fully melted, carefully remove it from the heat. It will thicken a little, and pour the melted wax into your candle mold.

    • 6

Allow the candle to cool for at least six hours, if not overnight. If you do not, it will become misshapen as you remove it from the mold.

    • 7

If your mold does not come apart and you used a glass or container, you can put the solid candle into the freezer for a couple minutes. This will contract the wax from the edges of the container so it will slip out.

    • 8

Trim the wick on your candle.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can use almost any container as a wax mold, as long as the base is not wider than rest of the container, for example a bowl, glass or coffee cup. You can also create mosaic jar candles from recycling sauce or mason jars, simply skip Step 7.

  • Do not put warm or hot candles in the freezer to speed the cooling process. If your mold is not made of metal, it could cause the mold to crack or shatter. Metal molds will transfer the heat of the candle within the freezer and warm whatever foods you are storing.
