Instructions

    • 1

Clean the area where the gym will be.This is an important step in making the room clutter free. Vacuum carpet or sweep and mop hardwood flooring. Clean the windows and anything else that may need it.

    • 2

Install shelves. Shelving will make it easier to keep all your gym equipment organized. You can use it for storage of light items such as yoga mats, towels and other small gym equipment. Place the shelves near electrical outlets so you can plug in a radio or TV if you would like. You might even consider getting a mini-fridge to keep water cold.

    • 3

Use plate trees and dumbbell racks to store weights. These types of weight storage systems save space and are safer than shelving for storing weights. You might want to purchase wall hooks for storage of items like resistance bands.

    • 4

Place your gym equipment around the perimeter of the room. Make sure there is enough room between all pieces of equipment and the walls to enable you to use equipment properly. For example, stationary bikes need about 10 square feet of space, and larger cardio machines may require 20 or 30 square feet. Leave the center of the room clear so you can place a mat in that area for floor exercises such as sit-ups and push-ups.

Hang a full-length mirror if you have any free wall space. Most gyms have mirrors so people can check their form while they are working out.
