High-definition video equipment typically relies on a high-definition multimedia interface cable to transmit both the audio and video signals. This HDMI hook-up is commonly found on all HD devices. However, if you have one HD product that needs to connect to a standard-definition television or other display device, you need to convert the HDMI hook up to an RF input. RF is more commonly known as coaxial cable.

Plug the HDMI cable into the "HDMI Out" port of the device you want connected to the RF input. Attach the opposite end of the cable into the "HDMI In" port on the adapter.

Connect the coaxial cable into the "RF Out" connection on the adapter, then insert the free end of the coaxial cable into the "In" port on your television.

Power on the TV and the connected HD equipment. Set the TV to station "3" and the high-definition program loads onto the TV, only in standard-definition.
