How to Make Security Decals Yourself

Security decals announce that there is some type of home security system on the premises. While they are normally placed on doors and windows in connection with the installation of a home security system, a security system is not always necessary, or affordable. Many homeowners believe that the decals themselves serve as enough of a deterrent to criminals. These decals can be purchased; yet, you can also make your own, saving on costs all the more.

Instructions

  1. Computer and Printer

    • 1

Design your custom security sticker or decals on your computer. Use a program such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Paint to accomplish this task.

    • 2

Copy or paste your security sticker design into a Microsoft Word document multiple times. A security sticker is normally 1.5 to 2 inches in height; so try not to make your stickers larger than that in order for them to look as though they came with an actual security system from a manufacturer.

    • 3

Print out your stickers on printer paper, using your printer. Be sure that the printer is set to print color images, or you will end up with simply black-and-white stickers. Most security stickers are in color, so keep this in mind.

    Completing Your Stickers

    • 4

Cut your stickers out with scissors, trimming off any excess border so that they look professionally done.

    • 5

Peel off one side of two-sided carpet tape. The carpet tape can be any size that you prefer, but keep in mind that it must be at least as tall as your stickers.

    • 6

Place the stickers on the bare side of the tape, pressing down so that the paper adheres to the glue on the tape.

    • 7

Trim the stickers on the tape as needed with your scissors as you cut them out of the tape.

    • 8

Peel off the back of each sticker and place them on windows or doors as needed.
