How to Draw a "Deltora Quest" Dragon
"Deltora Quest" is a series of books by Emily Rodda, published by Scholastic. The books follow the adventures of a boy named Lief, who must work through all kinds of magical dangers and situations to gather gems for the Belt of Deltora to rescue the world from the Shadow Lord. Dragons are introduced to the story in the sub-series "Dragons of Deltora." These dragons have long, thin bodies and hundreds of sharp teeth. You can draw these dragons with a few simple design principles. The easiest way to draw the dragons is with pencil, but you also may use other tools.

1
Draw the outline of the dragon's body onto the piece of paper. The dragons have long, thin, tube-like bodies. Keep the outline light at first so that you can erase unwanted lines. The body is widest just under the head while it slowly tapers to a long, pointy tail in the back.

2
Add the dragon's head. The "Deltora" dragons have heads similar to some deep-sea fish that have long, rectangular bodies and hundreds of long, pointy teeth. Draw the outline of the dragon's tongue as well if you plan to have the mouth open in the picture.

3
Add the feet and wings. The feet sit directly below the wings, about in the middle of the dragon's body. The wings are thin and jagged, and look similar to bat wings. The feet have large, sharp talons.

4
Add long, pointed tentacles to the dragon's head. Make the eyes small at the top of the mouth with cat-like pupils. Divide the dragon's body into small circular sections all the way down the body and to the tail. Add details and shading to the rest of the dragon to complete the look.

5
Color the dragon, if desired, with bright vivid colors such as blue, green and red. Make the eyes yellow. The inside of the mouth should be bright red. Keep the teeth mostly white with some yellow shading.
