How do I Install a Floyd Jones Oil Filter?

A Floyd Jones oil filter is an aftermarket filter produced for various makes and models of vehicles. The oil filter needs to be replaced every 3,000 miles -- at the same time as the vehicle's oil is changed. Fresh oil filters ensure that the oil and engine remain free of heavy metal buildup, which can hinder engine performance and cause major damage.

Instructions

Prepare the oil filter for installation by securing the O-ring gasket to the top of the housing. Line the open rim of the housing with plastic sealant and press the O-ring firmly onto the edge. Wait 30 minutes for the sealant to cure.

Lubricate the O-ring with the oil used on the vehicle. Dip a finger in the oil and run it along the top of the O-ring.

    • 3

Place the oil filter on the vehicle's filter port. The location of this port varies widely but is generally found in the middle of the engine. It may be necessary to lift the car up on a pair of jack stands to reach the port. Twist the oil filter one-half turn clockwise to secure it.
