How to Build a Night Light Box
A night light offers a comforting source of light in the dark when you get up in the middle of the night so you don't trip over something or so your kids don't get scared. You can make one yourself by making a miniature light box. It will give off a subtle glow so as to not wake you from sleep, but will keep a dull glow in the room, just the same.
Things You'll Need
- 4 pieces of 2x3.5 inch balsa wood quarter inch thick
- Craft knife
- 1 pieces of 2.5x2.5 inch balsa wood quarter inch thick
- 3 pieces of 1.75x3.25 inch plexiglass eighth inch thick
- Hot glue
- Paint

1
Mark out a 1.5 inch by 3.25 inch rectangle in the center of three pieces of the 2 by 3.5-inch balsawood. Carefully cut the rectangles out and toss the scrap you just cut out. You will now have three frames.

2
Glue the 3 pieces of Plexiglass in the centers so they're centered in the frames. Glue the three frames, Plexiglass side in and the other piece of 2x3.5 inch wood together to make a box with no bottom or lid.

Lay out the piece of 2.5 by 2.5 inch square wood. Cut a round out of the center to the size of the light fixture from your night light kit. It should be about one inch in diameter. Glue the square with the hole to the bottom of the box.

Rest the box on the night light fixture, slipping it through the hole. Screw in the bulb, holding the box to the fixture. Plug the night light into a wall socket to test it. Paint colorful designs and patterns on the Plexiglass to add color to the light as it shines through.
