How to Wire the Headset Jack on an iPAQ

The headset jack on your iPAQ smartphone is connected to the unit's motherboard. It's possible for the headset jack to become loose or damaged and prevent you from using it. If you have a few extra minutes, you can open up your iPAQ and fix the jack yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your iPAQ and turn it over. Slide the battery cover off of the rear of the unit and remove the battery.

    • 2

Lift any rubber pads off of the corners of the rear of the iPAQ to expose screws. Remove the four screws on the rear corners of the iPAQ.

    • 3

Insert the tip of your case opener tool in the seam where the back panel of the iPAQ meets the body of the unit. Work your way around the sides until the back panel comes off. The motherboard will now be exposed in the housing.

    • 4

Unplug all ribbon cables from their ports on the top of the motherboard.

    • 5

Remove all screws from the top of the motherboard and remove the motherboard from the unit.

    • 6

Locate the headset jack on the bottom of the motherboard and unplug it from its port.

    • 7

Use your soldering iron to loosen the solder where the jack wires connect to the top of the motherboard and remove the jack.

    • 8

Plug a new jack into the port on the board and solder the jack wires to the connector pads on the top of the motherboard. Wait a few minutes for the solder to dry and reverse the steps for reassembly.
