How to Change the Front Tire on a 2005 Harley Davidson Ultra

The 2005 Electra Glide Ultra Classic, a touring motorcycle made by Harley-Davidson, is equipped with comfortable seating and is designed to travel long distances. However, traveling long distances on a motorcycle will wear down your front tire. Instead of paying a bike mechanic to change the front tire on your Harley-Davidson Ultra, you can do it yourself.

Things You'll Need

  • Socket wrench set or an adjustable wrench
  • Jack
  • New front tire

Instructions

    • 1

Rest your Electra Glide on its kickstand.

    • 2

Jack the front end of your Electra Glide about 6 inches off the ground.

    • 3

Remove the bolts surrounding the axle disc using an adjustable wrench or appropriate-sized socket wrench.

    • 4

Remove the pinch bolt that holds the axle disc to the axle rod using an adjustable wrench or appropriate-sized socket wrench.

    • 5

Pull away the struts from the wheel on both sides to loosen their connection to the axle.

    • 6

Remove the front tire and set it aside.

    • 7

Replace the original tire with your new tire. The factory-equipped front tire on your Electra Glide is a 16-inch, 9-spoke cast-aluminum tire (model #MT90B16 72H). Use a new tire of the same model or a compatible tire of the same size. Consult a local motorcycle repair shop for compatible tires.

    • 8

Slide the axle into the hole of your new tire.

    • 9

Rest the axle discs, one on each strut, and push the struts into the axle until they are in place.

    • 10

Replace the pinch bolt using your adjustable wrench.

    • 11

Replace the bolts on your axle disc using your adjustable wrench.
