Notification of an annuitant's death can be done online or by telephone.

Reporting the death of a retired postal worker is the same as reporting the death of any other retired federal civilian employee. A retired federal employee is an annuitant receiving an annuity. Therefore, notice of the death of a retired postal worker should be made to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management. Notifying OPM is important because death benefits can still be available to surviving family members.
