How to Power Recycle a Cell Phone

Power cycling a phone can fix many problems.

Power recycle, or power reset as it is also called, is the first troubleshooting technique used by most cell phone tech support personnel. Power recycling the phone can fix many cell phone issues that are software related. It's simple enough for almost anyone to do. There are two ways to power cycle the phone -- soft and hard.

Instructions

Soft Power Recycle

1. Press and hold the power button on your cell phone.

2. Release the power button when you see the phone powering off.

3. Press and hold the power button again to turn the phone back on.

Hard Power Recycle

1. Remove the battery from the cell phone while the phone is on.

2. Count to 30 and replace the battery.

3. Press the power button to power the phone on again.

Tips & Warnings

• If you are still having issues with your phone after you have power cycled it, it is time to call your cell phone carrier's tech support number.
