Grand Theft Auto IV Has Stopped Working

If you have problems with this 2008 Rockstar title, you can use some general troubleshooting steps to help solve the problem and get back to the game's plethora of missions and activities.

Instructions

1. Inspect your disc to see if it has any dust or residue on it. Clean the disc if you spot any. Rub from inside of the disc to the outside using a dry, soft cloth. You can scratch the disc by rubbing in a circular motion.

2. Eject the disc from the console and turn off the power. Turn the power back on and put the disc back in to see if it will now work.

3. Check all of your gaming system's plugs to make sure nothing has come loose. Inspect the AC adapter that plugs into the wall outlet, as well as the audio-video or HDMI cables that insert into the back of your television.

4. Power down your console for a little while if you feel it may have overheated. Place your gaming system in a well-ventilated area to keep it cool while it runs as modern consoles can produce plenty of heat.
