How to Connect Two VLANs Using a Bridge

Creating a network bridge allows two separate network connections -- or two separate pieces of networking equipment -- to communicate and share information with one another. For example, if you have two virtual local area network, or VLAN, connections set up in your home, you can use native Windows tools to bridge the two networks together, allowing them to exist simultaneously.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Microsoft's Network and Sharing Center. This can be accomplished in one of two ways. The first is to open it via its dedicated Control Panel icon. You can find the Control Panel under the Start menu. The second way is to right-click the taskbar icon that represents your active wired or wireless network connection and select the "Open Network and Sharing Center" option.

    • 2

      Click "Change Adapter Settings."

    • 3

Highlight the icons in the window now on your monitor that represent your two VLAN connections. Right-click on either of the two highlighted icons.

    • 4

Click "Bridge Connections." Windows will bridge the two connections together.
