How to Import a CD to iTunes With Track Information

Importing track information makes organizing your CD collection simple with iTunes.

The iTunes music and multimedia player was developed by Apple, and is used to download, purchase and catalog movies, games and music. Importing your CD collection into your iTunes is designed to provide the track information, which is the artist, album, song title and other pertinent information. The process for importing CDs with track information into your iTunes can be done with little difficulty.

1. Ensure your computer is Internet ready. In order for iTunes to import the track information from CDs, it will need to connect to the Internet.

2. Insert your CD into your computer. If iTunes is your default music player, inserting a music CD will automatically open iTunes. You will get a prompt asking if you want to import the CD into your iTunes, and you should select "Yes" to begin the process. Your computer will automatically connect to the CDDB (CD Data Base) to retrieve all of the CD track information, downloading it as your CD is imported.

3. Import the CD into your iTunes manually. If iTunes is not your default player, you will need to open iTunes manually. Once opened, you will see an icon on the left side bar for the CD inserted into your computer. Click on this icon, which will bring up the track information for the CD. In the lower right corner, there will be a button labeled "Import," which upon clicking will import into your iTunes.

4. Get the track information manually. You may not have track information available after importing your CD, which is especially true if you did not have Internet access while importing. To get the track information, select "Music" on the left side bar, then the album in your music library. Click on the "Advanced" icon on the top utility bar, then select "Get Track Names" to download all of the track information. After it is done downloading the content, click on "Advanced" again and select "Get Album Artwork" to download the album cover associated with the album.
