How to Make a Fish Pond With a Pot
You can make a fish pond with a pot if you don't have the space or time to devote to a larger water garden. This type of gardening, called container gardening, allows you to experiment with your pond ideas on a smaller level. It's a good idea to use the largest pot you can handle when constructing one of these, as the fish will need plenty of room to be able to swim around. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Clean out the pot that you want to use to make the fish pond. Spray it down with a garden hose and give it a good scrub. Use a brush to remove any dirt clinging to the inside of the pot. Allow the pot to dry.
-
2
Insert the glue cartridge inside your caulk gun. Trim off the end at the quarter-inch mark at a 45-degree angle. Liberally coat the inside of the pot with the glue.

3
Press the rubber liner into place in the pot. Use your hands to press the liner down into the glue and hold it until it sticks. Wait for the glue to dry.
-
4
Trim the excess rubber from the pot with the scissors.
-
5
Fill the pot with water. Add any water treatment chemicals as needed. These chemicals are necessary to help dissipate the chlorine added to drinking water, which is harmful to fish.
-
6
Insert the pump or any type of water features, such as a fountain, into the pot. Plug the pump into a ground-fault circuit-interrupt (GFCI) outlet.
-
7
Add any water plants, if desired.
-
8
Gently lower your fish into the water in the pot.

Tips & Warnings
Talk with a local pet or fish professional about the type of water treatment additives that are best for your area.
Ensure that the fish and plants you want to have in the pot are compatible. Some plants work better than others when living with fish in a crowded ecosystem.
