DIY Rebar Camp Gear
Rebar is used in construction to support concrete and building walls. Scrap rebar may be used to make camping grills and tent stakes. This requires cutting the rebar and welding the grill together. The result is a stout and sturdy camping grill. In addition to the grill, rebar cut down into small sections, makes strong tent stakes for large canvas-wall tents.

1
Place a section of rebar into the bench vise and tighten it down. Mark 8-inch sections on the rebar.
-
2
Cut the rebar at the marked 8-inch sections. Saw the rebar at a 45-degree angle to give a spike to pound into the ground.
-
-
3
File the edges of the sawed rebar to prevent cuts and ripping to the tent fabric or skin.

Measure out eight, 18-inch lengths of rebar and mark accordingly. On another length of rebar mark 6, 12-inch lengths. Cut these sections from the rebar, using the cutting and welding torch. Work in a well ventilated area, and wear the mask and gloves during the cutting.

5
Lay out the 18-inch lengths, so they are parallel, and then place the 12-inch sections over them to make a rectangular grill shape. Remove all but one of the 12-inch lengths on the 18-inch pieces, and weld it to the longer lengths.
-
6
Place one 12-inch piece above the first, and weld to the longer bars. Continue to move up the grill, adding the 12-inch pieces, until you have a 12-inch by 18-inch rebar camp grill. Place this over an open fire for grilling and cooking.
