Use crayons to create a decorative pattern on a glass

If there are children in the house, there is a strong possibility that you have a stash of broken crayons hiding in a box somewhere. You can use the broken pieces of crayon to make an arts and crafts project suitable for the entire family. Adult supervision is necessary to heat the crayons. Each crayon-covered glass has a unique pattern and color scheme. Use light or bright colored crayons for the best effect. Dark colors may blend into one another and create a muddy shade.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the wrappers from every piece of crayon.

    • 2

Place the broken crayons into a plastic sandwich bag.

    • 3

Break up the pieces even further using a mallet or hammer.

    • 4

Lay a piece of wax paper on top of a cookie sheet and preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

    • 5

Drop the pieces of broken crayon onto the wax paper and place the cookie sheet in the oven. Watch the crayons closely because they will melt quickly.

    • 6

Take the cookie sheet out of the oven when the crayons are melted. Proceed quickly to the next step before the wax hardens up.

    • 7

Hold the glass in both hands and put one side of the glass into the wax. Turn the glass around in a circle to cover all the way around the glass.

    • 8

Stand the glass upright and leave it to dry until the wax hardens.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use a wooden chopstick to create unique patterns once the crayons have come out of the oven. Swirl the chopstick around the melted wax before covering the glass.

  • Always protect your hand when making this craft. The wax is very hot when it comes out of the oven.
