How to Convert US Cash in Australia

If you are in Australia and only have dollars from the United States, you will need to exchange your currency. In Australia, the official currency is the Australia dollar, which is known as AUD. Whether you are an Australian resident returning from the United States or an American visiting Australia, converting your USD to AUD is done the same way. When converting currency, you can typically only convert bills and not coins.

Instructions

1. Walk into any bank in Australia to convert your currency. While this is an easy way to convert your currency, it can also be the most expensive in terms of the currency conversion fee. If you don't have physical U.S. cash but instead have an ATM card, using the ATM card at any ATM in Australia is an inexpensive way to convert your USD to AUD.

2. Change your currency over when you land at an airport currency exchange kiosk. Usually these are located in the international gates at the airports. Check the exchange rate because the currency conversion fee can be high.
