How to Hook a Wii Guitar Up to a Computer

Wii guitars can be used in a wide variety of games including titles such as "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band" series. The Wii remote can be connected to a PC using a Bluetooth connection. The Wii guitars can then be programmed to work with game titles for the PC. To get the guitar to work with the PC will require establishing a Bluetooth connection, downloading free software programs and establishing the how the buttons on the guitar will work with your PC.

      Establish a Bluetooth connection. Many computers come with Bluetooth technology already installed in the system. If you computer does not have Bluetooth, an adapter can be purchased through many retailers. In 2010, a cheap adapter can be purchased for $20.

      Open the Bluetooth by clicking on the Bluetooth icon. This icon may be located in the bottom right tray of items with your clock display. The icon is a blue oval with a white triple triangle on the inside. Once opened select "Add a Bluetooth Device."

      Select "Search for devices" on the Bluetooth settings. Pick up your Wii remote and hold down the "1" and "2" buttons at the same time. The Wii remote will then start searching for devices to connect to. The Bluetooth system will then recognize the Wii remote and will display a "Nintendo" icon on your PC screen. Click on the "Nintendo" icon. If you are prompted for a pass key, choose the "Skip" option. A final screen will appear displaying the Nintendo Wii remote. Select the item and press "Finish." The Wii remotes blue will begin flashing.

      Download the script gh3.PIE and GlovePie to your PC. These programs will establish how the actions on the Wii remote are to be interpreted by the PC.

      Open GlovePie and select "File" then "Open." Find where you have saved gh3.PIE and open the file. A new screen will appear. This screen is where you will input the instructions for the Wii remote guitar. For coding directions, see the link in the Resources section.
