How to Put New Cars in GTA3

"Grand Theft Auto 3," or "GTA3," is the first 3D open world game in the franchise. The game is set in the fictional world of Liberty City. Players get to step into the role of a criminal getting revenge on those who betrayed him. While the game is available on multiple platforms, the computer version is the only one that allows users to modify the game. A popular modification is inserting new cars into the game and there are many websites that cater to this.

Instructions

    • 1

Download the car you want to put in the game. Sites like The GTA Place have many new cars that you can download. The "III" icon next to the car will indicate that it is compatible with "GTA3" and screenshots of the vehicle can be viewed on the download page itself.

    • 2

Download and install the "IMG Tool" for GTA3. This small program allows users to insert new models and textures into the "IMG" file that stores the data for the game.

    • 3

Run the IMG Tool and click "File" and "Open." Select the file "gta3.img" in the "Models" folder of the game. To put a new car in GTA3, an old one has to be replaced.

    • 4

Click "Command" and "Replace" and select the car model (the file ending in the "dff" extension) you have downloaded. Click "Exit" to save the file, and close the IMG Tool.

    • 5

Run the IMG Tool and click "File" and "Open."

    • 6

Select the "txd.img" file in the "Models" folder of the game. This file contains all the textures in the game and has to be modified to put a texture on the new car you added.

    • 7

Click "Command" and "Replace" and select the "txd" file that came with the car model file you downloaded. Click "Exit" to save the file and close the IMG Tool.

    • 8

Start the game and look for the new car you added. All models of cars that have been replaced will now be turned into the new car you put in the game.
