How to Clean Silk Furniture
Silk furniture is made from protein fibers produced by the silk worm. The silk threads are woven into a smooth and lustrous yet durable fabric ideal for making upholstery. When spills or stains occur, clean your silk furniture carefully to prevent damage. Use minimal water while cleaning silk to keep it from shrinking and fading. Things You'll Need
- Bucket
- Baby shampoo or non-alkaline mild detergent
- Cloths or sponges
- White vinegar
- Towel

Fill a bucket with 1 gallon of lukewarm water and add 2 tsp. of baby shampoo or non-alkaline mild detergent.

Dip a soft cloth or sponge into the solution, and wring it out. Dab the furniture with the cloth or sponge to clean any stains or spills. Rinse the cloth in the bucket as needed.

Empty the bucket and rinse it out with clean water. Fill it with 1 gallon of cool water. Add 2 tbsp. of white vinegar to the water.

Dip a clean cloth or sponge into the water, and wring it out. Blot the furniture to remove any soap residue. Rinse the cloth or sponge in the bucket as needed.

Blot the furniture with a towel to remove any excess moisture. Allow the furniture to air dry in a well-ventilated area, or set up a fan to aid in drying.

Vacuum silk furniture with a soft-bristled brush attachment to remove loose dirt and dust.
Don't use bleach or harsh detergents to clean silk furniture.
Don't soak the furniture with water while cleaning.
Don't dry the silk furniture in direct sunlight.
