How to Use Computer Games to Learn Spelling thumbnail
Computer games can help kids learn to spell.

Learning to spell properly is an important building block for other areas of education, such as reading and writing. Computers have come to be an important learning tool for children in the home, as well as at school. Computer spelling games can be used to teach spelling words to students at all grade and skill levels. Children who need extra practice can use these games at home or during school hours. Other children can use them to practice their skills before the big spelling test.

Instructions

  1. Spelling City

    • 1

Go to spellingcity.com and type in at least three spelling words into the boxes located below "Start here." You can add any number of words here. Parents can enter the child's spelling list from school. Make sure they are spelled correctly here.

    • 2

      Click the "Spelling Test" option.

    • 3

Click either "Say it" or "Sentence." When a child clicks "Say it," she will then hear just the word. When she clicks "Sentence," she will hear the word used in a sentence.

    • 4

Type the word into the box. The child types the word into the box, then clicks enter or return on the keyboard to advance to the next word. When he has finished, he clicks "Check Me" to find out what percentage of the words he spelled correctly.

    FunBrain

    • 8

Click "Check it" to see if you were correct and to move on to the next set of words.

    • 9

Work your way through all 20 groups of four words. Your results will display when you have finished all of the groups.
