How to Paint Your Tuscan Kitchen
Tuscan decor calls to mind the sweeping countryside and rolling hills of the Tuscany region of Italy. This decor style uses natural colors and earthy elements to create a welcoming and family friendly atmosphere. A Tuscan theme is especially appropriate for a kitchen, as this room is the hub of the home and a gathering space for family and friends. When painting a Tuscan-themed kitchen, choose earth-toned colors, such as burnt orange, olive green or terracotta. Prior to painting the walls, apply joint compound to give them the textured, handcrafted look that is commonly seen in Tuscan homes. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Prepare the area. Cover the floors and countertops with drop cloths. Remove switch plates, nails and anything else from the surface of the walls. Apply painter's tape along the baseboards and along the ceiling.
-
2
Apply joint compound to the walls. Use a trowel to spread the compound on the walls, applying it in small sections. Immediately after applying the compound, instead of smoothing it, rub the edge of the trowel along the surface of it to give it a textured look. Repeat the process until all the surfaces of your walls are covered.

Fill a paint pan with paint. Use a paintbrush to paint the corners, along the baseboard, near the ceiling and any other small space where a paint roller will not fit.
-
4
Paint the large portions of the walls with a roller. Roll the paint roller into the paint and rub off any excess on the shallow end of the pan. Apply the paint to the walls using even strokes and moving in an up and down motion.
